Annihilus had been defeated once again. It took the combined forces of the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Guardians of the Galaxy to do it, too. The gathered heroes knew that he'd be able to reconstitute his physical form in the Negative Zone, so it was decided that the Cosmic Control Rod, his ultimate weapon, ought to remain in the physical realm. The only issue was where. Currently, Moondragon of the Guardians of the Galaxy was holding it in a telekenetic field.
"The Baxter Building would be safest," Reed Richard argued. "We've had enough experience dealing with Annihilus and his ilk."
"What if we took it to Knowhere?" Star-Lord suggested.
"Or toss it in a black hole," Phyla-Vell advised. "That thing is evil."
"Well, we're not keeping it at Avengers Mansion," Iron Man lifted his visor. "My insurance premiums are high enough as it is without a cosmic superweapon in the basement."
"Whatever you decide, can you hurry up?" Moondragon groaned. "This thing is giving me a pounding headache."
"Are you sure you're all right with it, Heather?" Phyla asked, concern in her voice.
"It's fine, love," Moondragon replied with a strained smile. "Whatever influence Annihilus had on it is gone, and my TK field is keeping it safe."
Phyla seemed to want to argue, then her face softened. "All right, Heather. You know best."
In the end, they decided to temporarily keep it on the Guardians' ship, but each team left a member onboard, just in case.
That night, Moondragon was studying the rod. The beautiful bald telepath had held it in telekenetic stasis long enough to get a feel for what it was capable of. The rod could amplify one's powers a hundredfold! Telekenetic or not, she had held the rod long enough for it to connect with her. The rod sought out potential, and Moondragon's mental power was immense. For her part, Moondragon was feeling a desire for the rod as well. It had given her a little thrill to getly nudge Phyla-Vell into agreeing with her earler. Long ago, she had brought the warlike Ba-Bani to heel with her telepathic power, and she was just now remembering the pleasure it had given her. Now she wondered what she could do with the rod at her command. Just as her fingers brushed its golden surface, the door opened.

- "Hello, Moondragon," Susan Richards said. "I thought I'd see how you were doing..."
- "Hey, careful with that thing!" She-Hulk gasped.
- "Are you coming to bed, sweetheart?" Phyla purred from the doorway.
- Something (or someone) else!
